Principal Investigator
桂淼 GUI Miao, PhD
Miao did his Ph.D with Dr. Chang-Cheng Yin at Peking University and Dr. Ye Xiang at Tsinghua University. During his Ph.D, Miao was the first to determine structures of the SARS coronavirus spike protein and spike-receptor complexes. He joined Alan Brown Lab at Harvard Medical School in 2019 for postdoc research. He was amazed by an elegant organelle called cilia and has solved the atomic model of the core ciliary complexes, which provides a basis for understanding ciliopathy, a heterogeneous group of rare diseases. Miao started his independent research group at Liangzhu Laboratory of Zhejiang University in December 2022.
Outside lab, Miao likes traveling and is an NBA fan.

Postdoc
刘琦 LIU Qi, PhD
Qi obtained his Ph.D degree in Dr. Ye Xiang’s Lab at Tsinghua University. During his PhD and postdoc research at Tsinghua, he focused on unraveling the molecular mechanism of virus assembly from the perspective of structural biology, e.g. the first capsid structure of African swine fever virus. Qi joined Gui lab in 2023 and is keen on doing some groundbreaking work in cilia and cell skeleton.
Qi is also helping training students in the lab.
刘雨奇 LIU Yuqi, MD
Yuqi earned her bachelor’s and MD degree at Peking University, majoring in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She used to be a resident doctor in Beijing for 2 years. She is currently a joint postdoc under the supervision of Professor Songying Zhang at Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital and Miao. To better tackle with human reproductive disorders, Yuqi is trying to reveal the microstructure of germ cells. she joined Gui Lab in December 2023.
Yuqi enjoys singing, jazz dance and photography a lot in her spare time.
彭业军 PENG Ye-Jun, PhD
Ye-Jun graduated from the Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2023. In his PhD, he has gained expertise in various structural biological techniques, such as X-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy. He unraveled the synthesis mechanism of microcystin and the degradation mechanism of nucleotide phosphorylase. He joined our group in July, 2024.
In his spare time, he likes playing table tennis and watching movies with friends.
PhD student
杨烁 YANG Shuo
Shuo got her Master’s degree at South China University of Technology where she investigated the effects of dietary fiber on the properties of frozen dough. Shuo joined Gui lab in June, 2023. She is keen to transfer to biomedical researches and is looking forward to “seeing” macromolecules using structural biological approaches.
In spare time, Shuo likes photography, jazz music and baking.
Research Assistant
李博 LI Bo
Bo was born in a traditional Chinese medical family. After his Undergraduate and Master training on Chinese medicine, Bo worked at Sun Yat-sen University as a research assistant, where he did research on metabolic molecular biology. Bo joined in December, 2022.
Bo likes traditional Chinese culture, traveling and cooking.
Lab Dog
鸭脖 Yabo (aka Duck Neck)
Yabo was born on November 5th, 2022. He occasionally visits the lab on the weekends or during holidays. He is curious about every moving item.
